As cruise ships become increasingly popular, cruise lines continue to compete for potential passengers. While new ships are the shiny objects that grab the most attention (and headlines), major companies continue to innovate with new family-friendly adventures, high-end cultural itineraries, ship placements, and ports of call, too. If you’re considering a cruise vacation in 2026, here are the new experiences and itineraries that everyone will be talking about in the coming year.
Carnival Cruise Line
Carnival commemorates America’s 250th birthday with special sailings on 10 cruise ships departing from Florida, New York and California. On July 4th itself, the ships would gather at sea (seven off the east coast and three off the west coast) for a patriotic feast.
In other events, Carnival Luminosa will offer 10-day Alaska cruises for the first time from San Francisco (April to September), while Carnival Jubilee, Dream and Breeze will all sail from Galveston on new four-, six- and eight-day itineraries to Mexico, the Bahamas and the Caribbean.
For those looking to witness the total solar eclipse on August 12, Carnival Legend is offering an 11-day Carnival Journeys Eclipse cruise departing from Dover, England, and visiting France, Spain and Portugal. On the day of the eclipse, August 12, the ship will be at sea allowing optimal positioning for astronomical observations.
Finally, Carnival’s private island in the Bahamas, Half Moon Cay, will be renamed Relaxaway, Half Moon Cay, as it opens new welcome plazas at the North and South ends of the mile-long beach.
Cunard Cruise Line
In July, Cunard’s Queen Mary 2 will join the largest fleet of tall ships ever in New York City for Sail4’s 250th anniversary of American independence. Other QM2 cruise events include London Theater at Sea (May), Abbey Road at Sea (October), and Literature Festival at Sea (November).
A new partnership with Harper’s Bazaar debuted at Queen Anne in July. The iconic fashion monthly will lead expert talks, programs and fitness classes as the Queen Anne sails through the Norwegian Fjords. Queen Elizabeth sails her final season in Alaska from May to September before moving to the Caribbean.
Finally, Cunard’s three Queens will position themselves in the path of totality for the August 12 solar eclipse. The Queen Mary 2 will spend the night in Reykjavik, Iceland, allowing guests to see the sights of the Scandinavian capital. Passengers on the Queen Anne can watch from the deck at sea off the coast of the Iberian Peninsula. And when the Queen Victoria docks in Tarragona, Spain, on August 12, guests can sit on the steps of the Tarraco Roman Amphitheater, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, to admire the celestial wonder.
Disney Cruise Line
Following its maiden voyage in late 2025, Disney Destiny will sail its first full season to the Caribbean and Bahamas from Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. Disney Magic is offering its first season of Alaska cruises from Vancouver alongside its sister ship Disney Wonder, doubling Disney Cruise Line’s Alaska cruise capacity. After that, both ships headed to San Diego to return to port while sailing to Baja California and the Mexican Riviera.
While Disney Dream is on summer vacation in Europe, she will make her maiden visit to the port of Cagliari, on the Italian island of Sardinia. This historic Mediterranean city is known for its cathedral, architecture and Roman amphitheater. Finally, Disney Adventure becomes the eighth ship in Disney’s fleet, offering a series of three- and four-night cruises from the Marina Bay Cruise Center in Singapore starting in early March throughout 2026.
Holland America Line
Holland America is launching a “Legendary Cruise” in 2026 with a longer itinerary that includes a solar eclipse cruise, an Arctic Circle expedition and an extended European season to see the Northern Lights.
In June, Noordam sailed from Seattle through Canada’s Great Bear Rainforest and past the Arctic Circle for polar exploration. Two ships, Zuiderdam and Nieuw Statendam, offer Legendary Solar Eclipse Cruises, both spending August 12 at sea in Scandinavian waters to get the best views of the total eclipse. Both the Nieuw Statendam and Rotterdam spent an additional six weeks in Europe sailing to Norway chasing the aurora in November.
Lastly, Holland America is offering a seven-day commemorative “America’s 250th Celebration: Stars and Stripes Cruise” departing Boston late on July 4 to place the ship in Boston Harbor to view the city’s fireworks. This Stars and Stripes cruise on the Zuiderdam visits ports that played a role in US history, such as Norfolk, Virginia, where passengers can visit Yorktown, site of the final battle of the American Revolution, and spend the night in New York City to explore Revolutionary War sites.
MSC Cruise Ship
This is the first year that MSC has offered Alaska cruises. MSC Poesia heads to the land of the midnight sun in May 2026 with a week-long round-trip cruise from Seattle. The inaugural seven-night itinerary includes Ketchikan, Icy Strait Point, Tracy Arm Fjord, Juneau, and Victoria, British Columbia. To prepare for the Alaska season, MSC Poesia has undergone upgrades including the addition of the MSC Yacht Club, specialty restaurants Butcher’s Cut and Kaito Sushi Bar, All-Stars Sports Bar, a renovated spa and an upgraded gym.
MSC Cruises further expands its fleet when MSC World Asia makes its debut in the Mediterranean in November 2026. MSC World Asia will be the third “World Class” ship to join MSC World America and MSC World Europa.
Norwegian Cruise Line
Norway’s private Bahamian island, Great Stirrup Cay, is shining brighter with the opening of the Great Life Lagoon. The 1.4-acre lagoon will have a heated swimming pool, Splash Harbor for little ones, Vibe Shore Club for adults, and a new dock that will allow guests to walk directly onto the island. Later this summer, Great Stirrup Cay will open the Great Tides Waterpark with 19 slides, an 800-foot river, a 9,000-square-foot kids’ splash zone and Cliffside Cove. The Cliffside Cove attraction will allow guests, for the first time, to jump off a 10- or 15-foot cliff into the water. The island will also feature jet karts, a water racing arena where guests ride in mini boats similar to a go-kart/jet-ski combination.
In addition to the private island upgrade, Norwegian Jewel sailed from Philadelphia for the first time on a cruise to Bermuda. April through August, Norwegian Jewel offers weeklong cruises from Philadelphia with an overnight stay in Bermuda. In September, the Norwegian Gem departed for Canada while the Norwegian Pearl took the Philly to Bermuda route. Finally, Norway’s Luna will become the 21st ship in the fleet when it debuts in March 2026.
Princess Cruise Line
After debuting in the US in late 2025, Princess Cruise Line’s Star Princess hosts year-long cruises to the Bahamas and the Caribbean from Ft. Lauderdale as well as summer sailing season to Alaska from Seattle. The two-year-old Sun Princess offers “a better journey” on a seven-day itinerary in the Western Mediterranean. These upgraded cruise ships offer new ports such as Mallorca (Palma), Spain and Corsica (Ajaccio), France, and extended overnight stays in La Spezia, Italy (for Florence/Pisa), allowing for a two-day visit to the Tuscany region.
Princess Cruises is also offering three total solar eclipse cruise itineraries scheduled to view the astronomical phenomenon on August 12, 2026. The three solar eclipse cruises include the 14-day Mediterranean & Adriatic Enchanted Princess departing Rome on August 4, Sky Princess (August 8 from Southampton), and Sun Princess (seven-, 14- and 21-day itineraries departing from Barcelona and Athens).
Royal Caribbean Cruise Line
Royal Caribbean’s Royal Beach Club Paradise Island welcomed its first guests in late December. Now, Royal Caribbean passengers visiting Nassau can enjoy shore excursions at the exclusive club featuring two beaches, three pools, three grills and 10 waterfront bars. Royal Caribbean is expanding its beach club offerings, opening Royal Beach Club Cozumel and Royal Beach Club Santorini later this year.
Voyager of the Seas sailed for the first time to Alaska (round trip from Seattle) joining sister ships Ovation, Anthem, and Serenade of the Seas. Finally, Legend of the Seas joins the fleet as the third “Icon Class” ship in the summer of 2026 to sail in the Mediterranean before heading to Ft. Lauderdale in November.
